VIDEO: PRES. SARKOZY AND PM BROWN MAKE STATEMENTS ON TIBET CRISIS
L

ast night the Sarkozy - Brown press conference was carried on the AP satellite news feed. Here are their responses to a question on the proposed boycott of Olympic opening ceremonies, and a potentially wider boycott if China continues to refuse dialogue.

President Sarkozy was quite firm on what the problem is, and how it must be solved. He's leaving his options open, which will depend on how China responds in the near future. France will soon take over the rotating presidency of the European Union. Further initiatives may have to be taken, he said, leaving the ball in China's court for now.

The British Prime Minister was a little less firm, stating that he will be attending the opening ceremonies in Beijing, but reiterating that dialogue between China and Dalai Lama is essential at this point. He restated his understanding of his conversation with Chinese Premier Wen Jiaobao, that China would be willing to talk to Dalai Lama if two (already fulfilled) conditions are met.
