McCAIN MEETS DALAI LAMA IN COLORADO
P

residential candidate John McCain met with His Holiness for 45 minutes at a private home in Aspen, Colorado yesterday. After the meeting they spoke briefly to waiting reporters. McCain said the Olympic Games provide an opportunity for China to demonstrate its respect for human rights. (I would say the lack of such respect is amply demonstrated every day, but he's more diplomatic than I am.)

The candidate has apparently noticed the shrill and ludicrous pronouncements emanating from Beijing over the past four months, aimed squarely at the Dalai Lama. He noted that the Dalai Lama is seeking only fundamental rights for Tibetans to preserve their culture, language and religion. This quote was not included in any of the available video clips:
"That's why I'm so disappointed by repeated statements by Chinese officials that ascribe to the Dalai Lama views and actions divorced from what he actually represents. Such rhetoric doesn't serve a cause of peaceful change and reconciliation," McCain said.
No it doesn't, but it does serve other causes, and these need to be seriously looked into.
