CONDI ON BURMA
T |
he US Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice gave a clear statement on the American position on Burma in her year-end press conference yesterday. While noting the unfortunate dissipation of international attention, she pledged that the US will continue to shoulder its responsibility, to continue working to refocus the world's attention on the situation, and would return to it again and again at the UN Security Council and elsewhere. In particular, she denounces the manner in which the junta has treated UN envoy Gambari, which is "simply unacceptable."
The world has moved on to other, shinier things, and thanks to the United States for refusing to let the world look away so easily.
I wonder if by the poor treatment of Gambari, might she be referring to the dog 'n pony show they led him on in Shan State, so they could keep incinerating bodies without interference back in Rangoon?
